The first nonprofit healthcare organization in the nation to offer both birthing and abortion services under the same roof officially opened in October 2020 in Midtown Memphis.

CHOICES is a safe, welcoming clinic that offers comprehensive reproductive health care to everyone. Our high-quality, affirming health care services are available to everyone who walks through our doors—even if they can’t afford the full cost of the services they need.

Alabama Birth and Wellness Center

Alabama's first freestanding Birth and Abortion Center is Open:

We are combatting stigma and improving health outcomes by expanding reproductive health options for pregnant people in the South. We are opening a full spectrum reproductive health center to include the first freestanding Birth Center in Alabama. People who desire out of hospital births have few options. There is a growing demand for midwifery care; however, this care is not readily available for those with limited resources as these services are usually paid out-of-pocket. We seek to provide a safe, welcoming environment for all persons, and remove the barriers that have led to midwifery based care becoming a service that is unavailable to low income families.

This center will be a resource for the community. We will provide lactation support, childbirth education, family centered prenatal care, postpartum support and training opportunities for the next generation of providers.

We have secured a building. Funds raised here (not tax-deductible) will be used to renovate and equip the facility. Phase I of renovations is just about complete (clinical area including exam rooms and community center). Our goal is to start seeing clients in this facility January 2022!

trust women

In the wake of Dr. George Tiller’s assassination on May 31, 2009, Julie Burkhart founded Trust Women in order to honor his legacy and to continue fighting for reproductive rights. At the time of his murder, Dr. Tiller was one of the few physicians in the United States who provided later abortion care for women from across the United States, as well as from around the world.

Trust Women re-established abortion care in Dr. Tiller’s former clinic in 2013, to re-establish access to reproductive health care in the region. The Oklahoma City clinic opened in September 2016.  Both clinics are the only clinics in those communities that offer medication and surgical abortion services.

Abortion Care in USA

Independent abortion clinics provide the majority of abortion care in the United States, serving three out of every five people who has an abortion. These clinics provide care when and where others do not — operating in the most hostile states and compassionately providing care as pregnancy progresses. Yet independent clinic closures are unrelenting: the total number of independent clinics in the US has been reduced by 30% since 2012.  The Abortion Care Network provides support and coordination/trainings for independent clinics.
